One Year Betty Update

In March 2025, we took in a tiny Chihuahua as a foster. We wanted to make sure she got along with the other dogs. She was a sick baby. She had tape worms and pyometra. She had recently had a miscarriage. She was underweight. I knew my husband and I would make her healthy, but would she fit in with our three current dogs? I wont lie, I was nervous about this. We had tried a different dog right before Betty, and it didn’t work out. That dog (that was listed as ‘dog friendly’) continually tried attacking our current dogs. So, I was hopeful with Betty, but worried.

Y’all, I had absolutely no reason to be worried. Almost from day one she has been snuggling with our other girls. In the first month and half we had her (as a foster), we (and Mo Min Pin Rescue) got rid of her tape worms, helped her gain some weight, and got her spay surgery to take care of the pyometra infection.

While Betty was almost immediate BFFs with our girls, the same cannot be said for humans. She quickly warmed up to me and my husband, but not anyone else. She was very wary of humans.

Obviously we decided to adopt her. In the year that we have had Betty, she has become absolute BFFs with Elsie. Polly is like her mama. And her and Bentley tolerate each other! She has also gotten a bit better with humans. While she is still very cautious, she does allow my dad, my brother, and my mother-in-law pet her now. She also will sit in my mother-in-law’s lap sometimes. Additionally, she will let one of the vet techs pet her! That is huge progress for this tiny gremlin.

Betty turned out to be just what we needed in our family and this past year has been such a chaotic blessing with her.
